Has anyone left or thought about quitting social media recently?

I disabled my accounts. The one active is for work and all info has been removed. Except for reddit, no other platform

Oh god yes. The burnout is REAL. I don’t have any social media for personal use anymore aside from Reddit and Pinterest.

Don’t use any social media personally any more. Only for work and reddit for certain niche things.

I have moved my Social Life (very limited, although) away from Social Media in 2018-ish and it was the best descision I had ever made.

Sure, I still have a Facebook account to hold my business assets, but I have completely taken my social life away from Social Media, including staying away from Linkedin, Limiting Twitter Intake, and so on.

In case you too are planning

    1. Consider if you feel lonely with social media, and if taking that away would make you more lonely
If so, you might want to seek professional help
    2. Move your social interactions offline/1o1 first via WA/DM Apps\
    3. Inculcate healthy habits
    4. Uninstall the apps first (as a step)
    5. Deactivate accounts first (don’t delete straight) and see how you feel for a few weeks

Yup, deactivated FB, IG and Twitter. I use Reddit for info and news, along with tiktok. But those main 3 took so much time.

Removing IG and FB was the best decision I have ever made, so much time wasted looking at other people stuff without doing anything useful.

You think you need them, you think they’re funny but they are not, it’s a 1 cool thing every 100 posts, it’s just a waste of time and a lot of useless stuff from people flexing over things they have just to feel better with themselves after they saw someone else flexing over their things.

I haven’t had a FB account for years and don’t miss it. I can spend a couple of minutes a day on IG, but sometimes I don’t open it for a few days and never miss it. Twitter is a toilet full of hatred, so I tend to avoid it. Social media feels like a mixture of fake people pretending to be happy, and endless adverts, and fake people trying to sell me something. It used to be fun, now it’s more like watching a commercial TV channel – without any TV shows.

I’ve went from being an advertising art director to running a small studio for social content.

I had killed off all my social when I was in advertising. But now I feel I’m forced to develop a new presence or even multiple ones. One for my studio portfolio, another about a niche topic to showcase/experiment with different ways of storytelling , and even a third one for personal branding ( to network, approach freelancers and so on).

Anyone dealing with similar issues / found a sensible way to approach this?

I have a video on tik tok of 1 min, has already gathered 13 thousand hours of viewing, people really have to give up the internet

I keep deactivating & reactivating my personal account as & when I need it – my situation is a little difficult because I live abroad from many friends & family members in completely different timezones, so IM is not usually as practical. So I’ve tried quitting altogether but that’s more trouble than it’s worth (not for me, but for the other folk that incessantly pry about it – it’s easier just to leave the shell of an account up at all times then deactivate when I know I’m going to be entering a patch where I really don’t want to be disturbed lol). I may have also entered some false info there re: interests etc & disabled personalised advertising, just so that my data won’t be as useful to the SM platform haha.

I keep a public/ work account too, just so others don’t pry too much (you know, the folk that want your SM handle just to add/ stalk but never actually interact with you directly there lol). But for that account, I only access it via browser (no apps). This limits my exposure whilst still leaving me in control (I have it on my to-do list to check them at a particular time during the work day, so that I can still tend to business enquiries etc without making folk wait too long). The rest of the time though, I only get phone notifications from those I care about/ actually need to see lol
