Questions for Social Media Manager
Posted by seohelper on November 25, 2020 at 4:54 pmMy mentor set up a meeting with her and the social media team and social media manager at her company. I’m super excited but also kind of intimidated. What are some good questions I could ask and what should I ask about?

GuestNovember 25, 2020 at 5:49 pmWell, what are you trying to get out of it? What is your current role or study?

GuestNovember 25, 2020 at 5:58 pmWhat are you interested in learning about? Start there, it’s a conversation not an interview so no need to be nervous. Here are some thought starters:
Who do you think is doing social media well right now?
What can i read or who should I listen to to learn more about this field?
how do you judge success on social media?
What did you do to get to the job you’re in today?
And don’t be afraid to have them ask you questions.

GuestNovember 25, 2020 at 6:48 pmAsk what’s challenging or difficult about the job and how they handle such situations.
Ask them what they think would be an ideal skill set
What do people get wrong about social media.
This is an opportunity to ask anything and gain an advantage. What do you want to know?

GuestNovember 25, 2020 at 8:04 pmI might ask, “What is the best advice you can give someone in my position?”. Then ask questions about what they say.

GuestNovember 26, 2020 at 12:05 amMight be interesting to hear if they’ve worked both in-house and for an agency and some of the pros and cons of each. I think these are very different sides of the same coin and may help you define your career goals.

GuestNovember 26, 2020 at 1:34 amu/freeprune Not sure if you are a list person or not, but I’ll explain myself then give you a list, how does that sound?
I like to start by asking clarifying questions about what is being said. If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask what something is or what it might mean! You’ll learn more when you understand what is going on. After this, you can start digging into more of the fun stuff.
This is what I call the why and how questions, questions that dig into the meaning behind actions and these are the questions I would focus on if you are new to the social media world:
* How are you determining what trends you need to follow and capitalize on related to a goal?
* Why did you pick these key performance indicators (KPI’s) for measuring the success of these goals? Why not x, y, or z?
* Why did you choose these social media platforms for this specific social media campaign?
* How does this specific piece of content relate back to the mission & vision of the business? These are the questions that I love to discuss in the digital marketing world, but depending on who you ask and the tone of the questions could upset some people if they believe they already answered the question.
Be creative and come up with some questions of your own! Hope your meeting goes well and you learn lots. Give us an update on what you learn!

GuestNovember 26, 2020 at 6:15 amHow do they manage crisis and how do they prepare for social media crisis? Ask to share any recent experiences and what they learned/changed after it?
Do they have an employer advocacy program? How they measure results and what they generally expect from it.
How do they use social media listening? Do they work with different teams in company to share insights?
Do they work with influencers? Ask to share experience and what results they saw and if they think it made sense to do so?
If your company participates in industry events or has its own big event – ask how they plan social media campaigns to get more engagement out of events. Now – all of these questions will give you opportunity to offer help if you feel this is something you are interested in. These are areas that are closest to communications and will give you that extra opportunity to make your move into social media world.

1. What kind of marketing strategy you will use to make your product or brand stand out?
2. What platforms are the ones which are the most trending in social media marketing and how can they be used for maximum reach or followers?
3. What kind of content and graphics would you go with on your platforms?
