  • Product schema on a Service Based Website

    Hello,

I have added a product schema to show rating on SERP on my service based website

I am afraid if it gets removed or the page gets penalized

Website is a service based website and not an ecom or product website

My main goal is to show ratings on SERP

Is there any other schema code which show only ratings?

Can my page get penalized for not adding a product and instead adding a service?

It won’t get penalized, but Google may or may not use the schema to display your stars based on the type of SERP.

One way to have an accurate estimate of whether or not those stars are likely to be displayed, is to look at search results for competitors. If you see stars there, then look at what they’re doing and try to determine how you can integrate that type of display into your page. in other words, if they’re showing products for your keywords then maybe you need to show products. However, if they’re showing services and also reflecting star ratings, then you’re probably good to go.

In the past few years Google has really cut back on their willingness to show stars. My opinion is that they finally realized how much people were using them to simply increase CTR but not always necessarily showing accurate star ratings.
