Possible to use a static number for Google Call Forwarding?

Posted by seohelper on August 11, 2021 at 11:14 pm

I’ve managed to obtain a phone number *specifically* for use in the SEM channel. Is it possible to apply this, through use of the Google Ads script/functionality responsible for the dynamic Google Forwarding Numbers?

Basically I want the standard number to appear on all regular (non-Google) visits, and then this new, static number I’ve created on all Google/SEM visits. Is this possible?

Yes, but you’ll likely have to place some JavaScript on your landing page from your call tracking provider.
If you are only trying to track calls Google, you can set up “Calls from ads” to track all calls directly from ads and “Calls from website” to track calls from when a user lands on the website and came in through a Google ad. You don’t even need a call tracking provider for that.
Using a third party call tracking provider would allow you to import that call data into Google Analytics though and track SEM sources besides Google Ads.

Try Google Optimize – Use personalization and set it to only fire on those coming from SEM.

If you use CallRail you can specify what traffic types/channels where you will track, i.e. use dynamic numbers. This is probably your best solution.

Note that you must use dynamic numbers in order to associate the visit to the call.
