[POLL] Lets figure out this algorithmic update. How did your traffic/rankings change?
Posted by seohelper on May 6, 2020 at 2:50 pmI have a hypothesis. Content-rich sites are doing well and sites with just a focus on backlinking dropped.
If you have GSC or analytics setup, and can check your traffic and rankings, please vote below.

GuestMay 6, 2020 at 3:44 pmIt’s really hard to say. We cut off our Google shopping campaign on April 15th, and saw the corresponding paid traffic drop as expected. At the same time, (we had slashed the budget 2 weeks before, as we shut down the B&M Showrooms) we had been working through that 2 weeks on product descriptions, photo tags and meta data. At that time we stopped the Facebook ads too. We expected a 50% drop in site traffic, and that’s what we saw for a few days after the 15th.
But then something weird happened that we never expected; our organic search traffic jumped. and not just a little; the organic traffic ended up replacing about 80% of the lost paid clicks.
This is all great, of course, but we really don’t understand why, as onpage SEO efforts haven’t historically produced these kinds of organic traffic gains so quickly.
I’m guessing its an effect of a lot more people at home (we sell furniture and home decor products) right now, looking around the web for stuff that makes the homefront more comfortable, but like I said, that’s just a guess based on purely anecdotal information.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out as things begin to reopen and people get back their stores and offices.

GuestMay 6, 2020 at 5:38 pmToo early to tell. It’s only been, what, a day? Core algo updates take a week at least before you see the full impact. Things are pretty volatile right now.

GuestMay 6, 2020 at 8:05 pmWhat if you focus on content, on-page and linking building? Why would I not focus on the 3 core things that make up SEO?

GuestMay 7, 2020 at 7:11 amFor the past year, every update has helped my site. But this latest update has basically destroyed it. I lost about 45% of my traffic. And the site is the whitest of the white in terms of SEO. Frikin hell.
