  • Optimizing two pages for the same keyword?

Hi – so I’m a lawyer and I have one money term. City + lawyer. Everyone obviously optimizing the home page around this term. I will too. But can I also optimize a service area page around this work with good content and LSI?

I probably won’t get very many links to it, but it will be much better from a content perspective. And I really don’t want to overoptimize my home page with text and sacrifice UX. Thanks so much.

    What’s it’s purpose?

To help people? Or to win traffic?

If it’s to help people, just noindex OR underoptimise it for the key term.

If it’s to win traffic, why would doing two of the same page give you a better shot. Make one amazing page and leave other pages for other things.

I’d imagine there are a plethora of other unique parent category topics you can target if nothing more but for long tail advice types.

Using the keyword twice on two pages, doesn’t give you a one up.

    It just cannibalises and confuses.

I’ve worked with lawyers before. You can reserve your optimizations for specific landing pages if you’d like. Consider having individual service pages (personal injury, auto injury, medical malpractice, etc) and also have individual location pages that summarize types of cases that are served in that area. In my experience, I’ve optimized the homepage a little but reserved that page for branded queries and general info. It’s a good idea to not sacrifice the UX on the homepage and drown your audience in text. Good luck ??.
