I have a webcomic and I’m getting a lot of requests to open a Tumblr account. I’m doing well with Instagram/FB/Twitter. However, Tumblr is a totally unknown territory for me.

What are the key differences between Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram? And is there anything I should keep in mind when starting a Tumblr account?

I think one of the key differences is that follower count is hidden on Tumblr. You don’t get clout from having tons of followers, but you’ll get interaction through having consistent, high-quality posts and a really engaged core audience. Also, fandoms are probably the most active groups on there, you don’t really get casual users of Tumblr, so try and find a way in with them.

The hidden hashtags are your friend, go wild with them. Try and personalize your blog with custom HTML, it doesn’t have to be the craziest most unique theme but followers will appreciate the extra effort and a clean look. Hope this helps!
