  • Newbie question: if I reuse paragraphs in multiple posts, will I be penalized?

    Posted by seohelper on May 7, 2020 at 4:11 am

    For example (off the top of my head) I have an automotive site and I have five articles of “how to reset the oil change light on a MAKE MODEL”, where my 3-4 intro paragraphs are all the same followed by 3-4 unique paragraphs to that make and model, would this count against me? Should I aim to make each page fully unique?

    It’s not going to be beneficial for you to have the same paragraph in each page. I’m not sure if you will be penalized for having this on your site for sure, but I know you’re not going to rank well. It will look like spam to Google web crawlers.

    You not get penalized, but it is not suitable for your website ranking.

    If you have to doubt what you’re doing you should probably not do that thing.

    It is not suggested. You may highlight it and use it as a quote with a link to the original post. That is, if reusing the paragraph is absolutely essential. It is always advised not to have duplicate content. Personally, I wouldn’t do it.

    You probably won’t get penalized, unless flagged as spun or duplicate content. It won’t help your site at all though. You should absolutely try to make each page unique.

    If the rest of the site is thin content, it could flag up as a Panda hit. By the sound of it, the site will have similar issues on other pages.

    I would suggest combining the artciles into one longer, more useful article covering all makes and models. This will perform a lot better than a single, content thin page!

    A good rule of thumb is this;
    If you can copy/paste a paragraph into a Google site: search and get multiple pages, the SEO impact will be less than optimal.
