  • New to SEO: Can I Rank with Just On-Page SEO for a High-Search, Low-Difficulty Keyword?

    Hi all

I’m relatively new to SEO – SEO Masters, bear with me and help me out?

I’ve found a keyword on ahrefs with 300k+ searches per month and a keyword difficulty below 20. The topic itself is high competition although there seems to be a sub niche that hasn’t really been mastered. I realise many factors determine page rank although, with those numbers, would on-page SEO be sufficient to rank quickly?

Backlinks seem rightfully painful so I’m wondering how necessary they are in this scenario.

    Merci

    Highly highly doubt it.

Instead, I suggest you start small, like 4,5+ words long in the query, search volume < 100, barely any others targeting that keyword.

Perhaps set yourself a target/goal of 20 of these pages trying to rank for 20 low-volume, long tail keywords.

    Good luck!

yes, but 1-2% can, and 98% people can’t

Even if the tool you’re using is saying that it’s low difficulty, it probably isn’t. I highly doubt that a 300k volume keyword would have low competition.

Check the actual SERP. Analyze the authority of each site, how well the pages respect the search intent and their backlink profile. Then you’ll know if it’s really a low difficulty keyword.

No, but you’ll still have to do the foundational on-page work, so may as well get started. Test your hypotheses along the way, and if you see potential in the niche then explore more advanced off-page strategies as well as paid outreach.
