We are excited to announce Query groups, a powerful Search Console Insights feature that groups similar search queries.

One of the challenges when analyzing search performance data is that there are many different ways to write the same query: you might see a dozen different variations for a single user question – including common misspellings, slightly different phrasing, and different languages.

For example, here are a few different ways to search for the same thing – "how to make guacamole dip?":

    • how to make guacamole dip
    • recipe for guacamole dip
    • guacamole dip recipe
    • guac dip recipe
    • easy guacamole dip recipe
    • simple guacamole dip recipe
    • guacamole dip recipe easy
    • how to make guacamole dip easy

While these are distinct queries, they reflect a similar user intent. The volume of these variations makes it tedious to identify the main user interest and plan content strategically.

Query groups solve this problem by grouping similar queries. Instead of a long, cluttered list of individual queries, you will now see lists of queries representing the main groups that interest your audience. The groups are computed using AI; they may evolve and change over time. They are designed for providing a better high level perspective of your queries and don't affect ranking.

I really love this new feature.

While the news says only “huge volume” GSC property would have this “Query Group” feature, I would like to know does there volume range that we can expect?

Interesting. But now we can get a grouping by intent – just by filtering keywords by landing page.

Sounds great, but this is a joke:

    1. Search Console Insights doesn’t have an API.
    2. Search Console Insights doesn’t have an export feature.

So, it’s almost impossible to work with this data. This is the right move from Google Search Console team, but it’s just not enough.

Keyword clustering is still not a simple task, because of the approach used to do the right keyword grouping:

    – you can’t use words in keywords as a signal of grouping
    – AI chats still make too many mistakes when trying to group keywords

The only reliable method is using Google SERP checking for each keyword and looking for overlaps. If SERPs are similar, than keyword should be in one group.

I would like to talk with somebody who have good results with clustering using AI chats.

One of the ideas for clustering based on GSC I have is using landing pages as a default group. Google already did a job and usually all keywords by which page ranks in top 10 are in one group by intent. Such an approach can reduce a cost of clustering based on SERPs a lot. However there is one problem: too often absoluately non-relevant keywords rank in top 10.

I can’t go back to using GSC for anything other than indexing after using seo gets
