  • New Best Practice? Having “Home” in the title of the homepage?

I was under the impression is that the best practice was to have the title of a site’s homepage contain keywords, etc, then the name of the org/biz.

Lately, I’ve seen quite a few larger organizations with “Home – {company name}” as the title for their home page, and not the usual “Home Decor for people who think they are radios – {company name}” approach.

As SEO is an ever-changing world, I wasn’t sure if there was new thinking on this that I haven’t come across.

Yeah. Seems like a great way to increase click through rated.

I see this alot in WordPress sites, I don’t know if this is best practice, but I just see a lot of people with <page name> | <site name> programmed into their title tag.

Nothing has changed. Homepage is still meant for ranking brand keywords. Only in specific cases it should be ranking for something else.

“Home” isnt effective, sure it says what it is which can hint at a better user experience, but the homepage is the most “important” page on a website and so it should sell. Just look at ikea for example:

    1. Home – IKEA
    2. Furniture & Home Furnishings – Find Your Inspiration – IKEA

Which one sounds better and more clickable? 2 of course. In this case its about click-through rate not user experience.

I think it’s the default for most WordPress themes. So it’s either laziness or unawareness.
