  • Need advice on building a Social Media strategy for my web series

    Hi guys!

I graduated film school and my final project was a 22 min short film (comedy).

I’m planning to chop it down to 5 chapters of 4-6 mins and repost it as a web-series.

Also, I’m planning to begin a career as a Social Media Manager/Digital Content Creator/Copywriter (because turns out that writing scripts isn’t a day-job….) Therefore, I have two main goals:

    1. That my content will reach as many people as possible – at the moment my film has only 1.6k views on YouTube.

    2. To gain experience in social media marketing that will help me score a job later in that field – so to use my web-series as a portfolio I could later show to future employers.

Obviously, I will open an Instagram, FB, and YouTube page for the series.

    I need your advice on:

    1. How often should I post in these accounts, and what kind of content?

    2. How often should I post each episode – or maybe all together?

    3. Should I pay for FB or Instagram promotion? if yes, how much and what exactly for?

Any other advice about the Social Media Strategy you think I should have will be highly appreciated!

I’ve put a link for the full film in the comments if you wanna watch it 😉

What are you doing after the 5 video web series? Are you going to continue in the same theme of work or will the content change?

You need to go where your market is, so let’s first define your market

Best thing to do once you have your videos established on YT, FB, and even Insta, is to look around at other platforms so that you can build a bigger audience when you start uploading.
Facebook is a very good alternative to YouTube in the fact that you can make more money from advertisers than you would be able to on YouTube.
One way is to put your eggs in other baskets, go above and beyond your expectations and who knows what that will bring, I can tell you from my experience in doing that, it gave me more exposure and I made a lot of friends and fans.
Also I’m friends with a famous person, because he used a live streaming app that I’ve used since before I started filming.
His name is Eric Hennig and he’s in the hunger games, me and him were screwed over by people before and that’s how we became good friends.
Also he chose me as his top 10 friends to use a beta version of another app that’s like the one we met on called “Rize”, it was fun and eventually got released and then ended up merging the two apps together, so now it’s just “YouNow”

Post the maximum amount that enables you to be the most consistent without burning out. Be honest with yourself on that part.

Don’t post it all together, its so you can make people subscribe/follow to get notified when the next part is out. Spacing episodes out can also let you test and see what works and what does then adjust accordingly.

No I generally would not in the early stages. I only spend money on ads if my post becomes “viral” and I want to accelerate the growth on my account.
Also note that if your content is exceptional there is generally no need for ads because large reposting accounts will reach out to you and ask if they can repost your stuff which gives you lots of
    free exposure.
