My plan to get my first PPC Client – What do you think?

Posted by seohelper on April 7, 2021 at 2:46 pm

Hey guys, I got really passionate about PPC, precisely Google Ads and I’m looking for my first client for local lead gen.

In this thread I want to share 3 ideas I’ll try to implement in the next days/weeks.

Hope I can get good advices, recommendations and further tips to reach the goal!

    **#1 – Free Audits**
Just search on google for *”niche+city”* and reach out to people who are doing huge mistakes.
    Here’s the “funnel”:
    1. Reach out pointing out the problem and how badly is affecting them (and how to fix)
    2. If they reply (to say thank you or asking further info) I’ll offer a free audit
    3. After the free audit I’ll propose to fix their account up and a trial period of management

^ It’s probably going to be a number game, but it might worth a shot

**#2 – Advertisers, but not on Google**
Reach out to people advertising but not on Google Ads.
For example on Yellow Pages, niche directories, radio… those people are investing money in ads and if google makes sense for their situation they can be good prospects.
I plan to do this using custom tailored market analysis (actual search volumes, competitors analysis, etc…)

    **#3 – Lead Generation Upfront**
This will require spending some money in advance. I don’t have many left, but I want to try anyway.
Simply set up a landing page for a specific service in a vertical + city.
For example “solar panel installation for condos” or “inground pool”.
Run the campaign myself and try to collect some good leads.
Then, try to reach out to companies and offer some leads for free and from there try to get a deal.
Or, in the worst case scenario, using the results to create case studies and leverage the existing case study to pitch other businesses within the same niche.

^ For this particular activity I have just a couple of shots, I can probably set up two of these funnels in two different niches. If none of them workout I will be at 0 money left. Risky.

    **My goal**
The goal is getting to the point where I earn between $5-10k in MRR, having few accounts to manage (5-10). Does it sound like a realistic goal to you?

    —–

If you read till here, thanks for taking the time.
    I really appreciate it.
I want to succeed badly and wiling to listen any advice.

    Thanks

Do you have professional experience running paid media campaigns? What’s your experience like? Do you have prior success running Google Ads accounts? At what level of spend, for what duration and what were the results?

I ask because you made it sound like you’ve new to Google Ads. In which case I’d advise working in the industry to gain the required experience before taking on your own clients.

You don’t know what you don’t know and paid media campaigns goes beyond creating ads and includes tracking, attribution modelling, marketing c-suite skills and more. Managing 5-10 clients also requires a skillset that you’ll gain quickly working for example in an agency.

I have a similar long term plan to you, except for now I’m focused on developing my skillset working in an agency, having worked in-house previously. I’ve worked on over 50 clients now and am beginning to seek freelance opportunities.

Biggest issue I see is your lack of experience and/or confidence. Agency won’t hire you and even working for a business owner won’t do it because you may not even get results. I would link up with up and coming businesses or find a business that wants to do it and tell them you’ll run their add for free to gain knowledge. Kind of like an internship. As soon as you get dangerous and know what you are doing, you’ll have the confidence to speak to businesses and agencies like you are a champ. I make businesses and agencies respect my time because I know I can produce results. Trust me, they look at you a lot different when you have the skill set with proven results.

I own my own PPC business and basically did your #1 for my first year and it worked well. I am bad at cold calls/emails so it definitely hasn’t been my most productive practice but whatever fits your skillset. Definitely coming in with a “problem” that you saw with their copy or something is a good way to get someone’s attention. The free audit is nice as long as you make it lightweight and don’t put too much work on your end, could slow you down.

Best of luck, I love what we do and it allows me to be flexible with work hours and location.

I personally use strategy #1 and I recommend you pursuing primary starting off! As long as your PPC skills are good and you know you there is room for improvement with the accounts you’re looking at you should do great!

I’ve read a couple of posts about a guy who did (3). He invested 3.000 USD until he really knew what he was doing. Funnily enough he was collecting leads for a poop scooping business in different cities. And within 6 months he started earning decently (I don’t know how much, but he was satisfied with it).

The guy shared his experience (and asked for feedback on copy and strategy) on FB in the group Justin & Stefan Talk Copy. Check the posts out before you invest your money – you might learn something. 🙂

    Good luck!

When talking about spending others people’s money, you better know what you’re doing and not learn with someone else’s dollar.

    Just my two cents here.

OK, I have read the thread and I think pouring your last $300 into a PPC campaign, right away, when you are a noob (sorry) is not a good idea. I would use the keywords planner in Google AdWords to identify best keywords in your selected nieche, then build the site and content around those keywords.

Don’t forget that organic search traffic is the best traffic because you don’t have to pay per click.

Then I would reach to service suppliers in your chosen nieche and tell them that you are willing to send them leads for a success fee (ussually a % of sales after a client pays them). This is a no risk offer for the suppliers.

You can even ask them to pay a small amount of the budget like those $300 and tell them you will cover the rest of the budget from your own money.. which you can do or don’t have to.. and now somebody else is paying for your learning process.

And you can even get paid nicely later from your success fee some of which you can reinvest to increase the ad budget and get more money from the success fees in the future.

Also make sure your lead generation optimisation is spot on. Personally I use chatbots instead of classical forms with great resuls.
