  • My Instagram reach cut in less than half overnight

I run a music artist page on Instagram we have like 20k followers.

Did anyone else notice a drastic cut in their organic reach on reels (especially) this past week or so? I went from getting 10-20k views per reel to about 4000 if I’m lucky.

The last 5 posts I made all got less than 4000 views. They were high quality posts, on par or better than the previous ones I’ve made.

The algorithm has struck. You’re no longer needed on insta. Hence why!

IG has done the same to us for over 14 months.
Went from 300-800,000 views per clip and amazing reach to nothing overnight.
Content quality is good if not better and we know that with certitude since our feed is constantly poached by “theme feeds” that do better with our material than we do.
IG sucks and so does lizard-face and his halfwit IG CEO.
Reddit and Pinterest are the only legitimate social media options.
    Hopefully you regain your reach!
    Good luck and best wishes!

I was told that the way reach was calculated has changed recently. It used to show the number of people whose feeds your post was placed in, regardless, of whether they scrolled past it or not. Now it shows those who actually see your post in their screen. Which is what we always *thought* it was to begin with. Basically, this was your more accurate reach all along.

Dont be discouraged. What worked for me is switch up the hashtags.

My reach and engagement had been pretty terrible lately but I also notice that I myself engage a lot less – I just don’t care enough to comment or like the same shit I’ve seen a million times from my friends and the people I follow. I’m sure it’s partially relational, you get what what you give but at some point you start to wonder if the time suck is worth the returns. IG is at a real crossroads for how they support artists and I’m afraid that they’ll probably fail miserably again by making a decision based off ad sales instead of fostering community.

Instagram has stopped caring about reels, and is moving on to other things. People don’t go on Instagram for tiktok content, and Instagram has realized that it isn’t worth promoting in the algorithm or in general, which was reflected in its recent update.

I talked about how I assumed it wasn’t going to be a long term way to be boosted in the algorithm on another thread a few weeks ago, but I didn’t think they would kill it that quickly.
