My health is suffering because of debt collector calls, do I have a case?
I need to ask this community for some guidance because I’m at my wits’ end. I have a documented anxiety disorder, and the constant harassment from a debt collector over an old credit card debt is genuinely making me sick.
They call me at least 10 times a day, starting at 8 AM. They’ve called my neighbors and even my boss, disclosing that they are trying to reach me about a debt. Every time the phone rings, my heart starts pounding and I feel sick to my stomach. I’ve started having panic attacks again, which I haven’t had in years. My therapist is aware and has even documented how this situation is exacerbating my condition.
I sent them a certified letter asking them to stop calling me at work, but they just ignored it. I know they are allowed to call, but this feels like deliberate harassment that is directly impacting my mental and physical health. I’m not just annoyed; I am genuinely suffering.
Has anyone successfully sued a debt collector for the severe emotional distress they’ve caused? How do you prove something like that in court? Any advice or shared experiences would mean a lot right now.
