  • Moving from Squarespace to WordPress, how do I preserve rank?

Posted by seohelper on November 7, 2020 at 7:49 am

I made my mom’s website for her small business before I knew anything about web design, SEO, or anything in between. I now know that Squarespace isn’t the best platform for SEO customization however, I’ve been able to get her site to rank for some keywords that drive a bit of traffic.

Now I’m moving her site to WordPress with Elementor, Yoast, etc. but I want to make sure she still ranks for those keyphrases. What is the best way to do that?

Be careful with site speed. WordPress and plugins make a slow site.

You need to set up 301 redirects from every old page to every new page

There’s no reason why WordPress sites need to be slow, but you do need to be careful with plugins and themes. If the site content is essentially the same and you’re careful not to lose any pages (and get errors), you should be fine.

Redirect all of your old pages to the new ones using direct 301. Also, try to duplicate your content optimization from the old site to the new one such as META titles. Last thing, keep all of your content. Good luck!
