Magician in Need of PPC Wizardry After Disappointing Experiences

Posted by Silent_Positive_7230 on July 30, 2024 at 7:01 pm

    Hello r/PPC,

Rudy Castle here, a magician based in Florida, trying to better harness the magic of PPC after some lackluster experiences. I specialize in close-up magic and need help revamping my online ad strategy.

    **Background:**

    1. Student Marketing Firm: My initial attempt was with a student marketing firm that was supposed to be cost-effective. I paid them around $250 per week, totaling $3000. They delivered poor communication and a substandard website, with no improvement in SEO as promised.
    2. Established Digital Marketing Company: More hopeful, I hired an agency with 18 years in the business. They charged $1500 and built a decent website (mrcastlesmagic.com), but then I continued with them for SEO, Google Ads, and Facebook ads from January to June. The investment was over $2700 in SEO (0 leads), $950 in Google ads (0 leads), and $450 in Facebook ads (1 client), yet all this led to just one paying client.

    **Needs:**

    • Someone skilled in Google PPC for the entertainment sector.

    • Reliable, transparent communication.

    • Strategy that converts clicks into bookings.

    **Looking For:**

Recommendations for a PPC guru who can cast a spell on my campaigns and bring in the bookings. Bonus if you’ve worked with entertainers!

**Note:** They also host my website, which makes me feel a bit stuck, adding a layer to my quest for a new marketing partner. They want $145/hr for basic copy paste text updates on my website.

**TL;DR:** Need a PPC expert who can help a professional magician get more bookings after dropping $7K+ on ineffective marketing. Looking for real results and a good partner in the magic of digital ads.

    Cheers!

I can confidently say you’ve been ripped off on that $1500 website and you are being held hostage for that hosting and $145/hr text updates.

Regarding the advertising results – no doubt you get this performance with such a website. However, I’d start checking if the demand for magician services is there.

Perhaps look at some good instagram pages of other magicians and run ads on your page if you don’t want to reinvest in the website.

Even a top ppc specialist is helpless if the service and business assets are poor.

I haven’t looked at your competition or search volumes.

    But…

If there’s demand in your local area and you want to get some leads via ppc

    – set up a search only campaign
    – bid on something like “magician near me”, and possibly a couple other keywords with very similar search intent
    – get rid of the too long lead form and either replace it with something shorter or turn it into a button that goes to a typeform (step by step is easier for folks to digest rather than a long form hitting them in the face)
    – if you use a button, make sure it appears on several areas of your page
    – move testimonials higher and sprinkle throughout the page if you have them
    – make sure conversion tracking is set up
    – bid on max conversions, only setting a tcpa once you have some conversion data
    – local targeting set to ‘presence in’
    – watch your search terms and carefully add terms to negatives

That ought to get you started as long as folks are actually searching for your services.

Hey! Agree with some of the other commenters, the website isn’t doing you any favors. I’d look to level the site experience up into something a little more engaging and magical considering the service you’re providing.

After that, I’d probably look into Google Ads and run search campaigns based on location and keyword targeting. Do some research into keywords and what people are looking for (ex. magician near me, kids birthday party magician, etc.) and bid strongly on those. Make sure your tracking is dialed. I wouldn’t venture into Facebook ads just yet until you’ve spent some quality energy creating engaging, fun, short content – then it might be worth testing that a little around your location.

    Good luck!

Since you are in entertainment, I suggest working it on Facebook. Make random magic in the streets, and video it for less than a minute as people prefer to watch short videos like reels. You can even earn there if your videos reach many viewers and then do soft sales and marketing (CTA). Coupled it with meta ads so it can reach more people quickly. If you need help with your ads campaign, you can DM me.

your website looks like it was purchased from temu. i’m guessing someone spent $50 on fiverr and charged you way more for that… also, why do you want to focus on google PPC?
