    LSA vs Ads

Posted by MjG_8 on August 29, 2025 at 3:46 pm

    Hi guys.

Working service-based business (kitchen remodelling – location specific) and I’m curious how others approach balancing Local Services Ads with traditional Google Ads.

Do you run both together, or do you tend to prioritize one over the other?

LSAs work really well to get a stable amount of quality leads every month but then volume varies for everyone based on the amount of overall reviews they got & how optimized the GMB profile is.

I like to focus more on search ads cuz of the many factors that can help us stand out from the crowd like quality scores & ad copy.

Then running LSAs one the backend to get a few high quality leads every month.

With LSAs you have much less control so the lead volume will be much lower if the company is not reputable locally with a high number of 5 star reviews. And it’s also harder to scale

The reality you need to run both now a days because Google goes back and forth on prioritizing different formats. A lot of times recently they are REALLY pushing LSA over PPC ads because of various tests and views on PPC ads. What we do tho is separate out the accounts so that we can see both accounts in an MCC. This allows to better budget between the two platforms to hit your desired monthly budget.

Do run both if you really can. I’ve found that often times businesses can either afford one or the other. LSAs can be really expensive in some niches and in others bordering the line between affordable and expensive.

Google Ads can be great if you can find some golden eggs in your industry that are not high CPC and you cannot afford LSAs

Run both LSAs for high intent calls and form leads at the top of results and Google Ads for broader keyword coverage and retargeting then shift budget toward whichever delivers lower CPL in your market.

For a service-based business like kitchen remodeling, you’ll generally get the best results by running both Local Services Ads and regular Google Search Ads.

LSA places you right at the top with that Google Guaranteed badge, which instils a lot of trust and means people are often more likely to click. It’s also pay-per-lead, which helps you manage your budget and know exactly what you’re paying for each enquiry.

Traditional Search Ads let you cast a wider net with your keywords and ad copy. You can really hone in on specific remodeling types or customer needs, which you can’t quite do with LSA. Both are about catching people when they’re actively looking for your service.

We’ve seen this approach work well for other service businesses. An HVAC client of ours, in a pretty competitive area, uses both and gets solid leads, and for a home cleaning service, we saw CPLs around £5. For kitchen remodeling, you’ll probably find leads are more expensive, but the contract value is higher. Optimise those Search Ads for calls too if you can handle them! Hope this helps!

It really depends on your budget. If you have a small budget of say a few thousand dollars you’re usually better off just picking one and sticking with it.

But as your budget increases say closer to $10K/month it makes more sense to run both to help smoothen out performance variability.

However, even then you are basically relying on Google for 100% of your business. Over time you should consider adding Microsoft Ads and possibly Meta as well. And don’t forget about home services aggregators… those can drive great quality leads as well.

As for how they perform, in most cases LSAs will drive more consistent results, but Google Ads will deliver higher quality and lower cost leads. Note this isn’t in every case.
