    Hey everyone,

First time posting here so please let me know if I can get support in another subreddit. TLDR at bottom.

My local game shop (LGS) is still roughly new, a little over a year in. Doing really great for themselves and they focus on all TCGs and tabletop games: Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Warhammer, D&D, and so on. I spend a lot of time there and the owners are now looking for someone to handle social media for them, nothing crazy huge as of now but could always get there. They asked my wife (she works there) if she knew how to do a lot of social media, but she doesn't, but I can and have done stuff before. I let them know and they said we'll talk later about that.

So, I'm here asking for general assistance if this becomes a thing. What kind of things should we focus on? A mixture of everything I'm sure and on many platforms, but any specific content that we know does well? Box opening of packs is a huge thing so I'll definitely do that, but I want opinions for multiple things and just overall tips.

TLDR: might work social media for a local card shop and looking for any beginner tips that can be provided.

    Thanks!!

    This is a great opportunity!

I was in a similar spot helping a small business with their social media.

One tip that helped us was focusing on what really engages their community, not just broad content.

This happens to be something my team is building for, WaveScoop helps generate on-brand ideas.

What kind of games does your LGS community get most excited about?

Local game shops thrive on community signals, not follower counts. Focus on geotagging every post with your city/neighborhood, showcasing customer reactions during events (before/after tournament vibes, pack opening wins), and engaging in local TCG/board game groups daily. Content that converts: event recaps with faces (consent first), new product unboxings with “in stock now” CTAs, and quick deck/game tips filmed in-store. Avoid buying follower blasts—they kill local reach when the algo sees they’re not in your area. If you’re testing paid reach, only boost posts that already have organic engagement and tighten the geo-targeting to a 10-mile radius. I’ve used tiny momentum boosts via Crescitaly on high-performing local event posts, but only after confirming watch-time cleared 50%. Local works differently—community trust > vanity metrics.

box openings + reactions will def hit, but don’t sleep on community content—showing real players in the shop, quick tips, funny moments. ppl follow shops not just for products but for vibes + belonging. reels/tiktok should be ur top-of-funnel since they spread way faster than fb posts. another thing i’d suggest is once you start, run a few vids thru video analysis tools (e.g. creafico, etc.) to get recommendations on what to improve. makes it easier to figure out why some vids hit and others flop so u can double down quick.

    Hope this helps !! 🙂
