Hi guys, I created a custom alert on Google Analytics to notify me of users who landed on 404 pages, and in the past week, that number has risen sharply and I can’t seem to find out how users are landing on that 404 page.

I used a secondary dimension for Source / Medium and it shows visitors coming from direct AND organic but I checked in the Google Search Console and by Googling the search query and that page does not appear anywhere in the search results as well.

    Any advice? Thanks!

Could be bots probing for random vulnerabilities.

Have you done a site audit?

I would suggest using an SEO audit tool like screaming frog to crawl for 404 pages so you can do a redirection for these pages. Under their free plan, I believe you can crawl up to X amount of pages. Should take a look
