The owner of my company wants to do some competition research on LinkedIn to see what similar firms and leaders within our industry are posting.

When I click on hashtags that I’m following, the “top posts” don’t seem to have any rhyme or reason. e.g. the number one result sorted by top has zero likes or engagement of any kind.

Is there a way to sort hashtag search results by “top posts” over a defined time period. When searching a hashtag, it only give me the option to sort by relevance or latest.

Also, does “top posts” sort by total likes, engagement, or reach?

I don’t know about sorting but it’s definitely engagement that gets to the top.

I am sure there’s third party software or bots that do this for you- there’s all sorts of social listening programs that provide really sophisticated insights- you can do keyword research, look at the tech stack a company has, and even the various types of paid advertising they’re implementing in addition to all the details on their performance on social platforms (engagement, post frequency and date, CTR, paid reach vs organic, etc) and there are a million just Google “Social Listening.” Buffer has some good info on this subject. Also Social Bakers and Sprout Social are great resources too.
