In SEMrush, I have a suggestion for one of my location pages that my home page actually ranks better for a specific keyword that should go to that location page:

“physical therapy in gilbert” – should rank my location’s landing page, NOT my business’s home page. SEM rush is suggesting that I stop targeting this keyword for my location landing page in order to avoid cannibalization, which I do not want to do. I would rather stop my home page from ranking for this keyword, and have the location’s landing page rank. They are both ranking between 18-22 currently, so not very good.

It may explain why I’ve had such a tough time ranking this location page, in comparison to my others.

What would you suggest that I do to fix this problem? Should I decrease the amount of times the city is mentioned on my home page? There are already plenty of internal links pointing from my home page to the landing page.

    Thanks for your help!

I don’t think you should worry about. Keep them both and strengthen your inner page.

    Keep both
Do everything on your location page that you’re doing on your home page
Work on your citation that’s it
