Is using colons or dashes in RSA descriptions effective?
Posted by on March 30, 2026 at 11:59 amWhen asking LLMs such as ChatGPT for a few suggestions for RSA descriptions, a big percentage of them contain a colon or a dash, like: "New Arrivals: Stunning Red Shoes at Prices You'll Love".
In fact, without prompting to do otherwise, most descriptions contain either a colon or a dash, breaking up the description into two parts basically. Rarely do I see a full sentence without dashes or colons.
Has anyone tested this out? Colons versus dashes or Full sentences vs descriptions with colons or dashes?

I think it does add visual interest and breaks up the “skim-ability” of a paragraph. It probably does not uplift by any significant amount.
