  • Is there really a secret to SEO?

Posted by seohelper on July 20, 2020 at 9:13 pm

The company I work for employs a third-party to optimize blog posts. I have experience with this, so I had told someone from that third party company that we could take care of it on our end from now on.

Well a manager over there sends my boss an email saying they should really be doing the optimization because they have “techniques that not many people can replicate.”

Am I missing something? Good meta data, good titling, researched keywords and internal linking throughout, good length, etc. (i.e. best practices for character counts and all that)

    What more is there?

Edit: These answers are exactly what I thought. Thanks folks!

Are there tweaks and tactics that 90%+ of folks don’t know that are beneficial to SEO, yes. Are there secret optimization tactics for using on blog posts to get them to rank super highly? No. You may have blog posts in need of some refinement but whatever that company is trying to sell you is bullshit.

Sacrificing a pure white (black in black history month) virgin chicken to google and announcing your laptop while the browser is on googles homepage with the blood of said chicken.

Other than that, you hit the right points.

There’s really no secret. SEO is basically knowing what your customers want and then making it as easy as possible for them to get what they want.

I agree with mos of the responses here…there is no secret.

There are basics that you should pay attention to, such as those you mentioned, and you can find more online. When someone says they “optimize” stuff, someone should always ask for evidence. I could simply alt-text an image and say I optimized a blog.

I don’t know, if you know how to do link building right you can pretty much rank whatever you want regardless of how competitive the niche is. I would say most SEOs don’t know how to run campaigns in Ranker X or build legit PBNs. So yeah there can be kind of a secret sauce but I don’t think they know how to do any of that based on your post.

In fairness we do not know how well the company understands optimization. I constantly have to go back over clients content to take out keyword stuffing duplicate content etc.. it may be that the SEO company is trying to prevent something like that.

Seems like they have one good thing going: scaring the living daylights out of the person signing their checks 😉

While there are certainly commonalities when it comes to the tools and methods used for SEO, there will always be disparaties when it comes to the specifics of doing SEO. There are times when one method works for a particular niche or case, but not necessarily in others. There are those who would buy website traffic before integrating it in the organic flow. Service providers and platforms like Google, Facebook, Pinterest, maxvisits .com, fiverr, easysocials, Pinterest, markhard, and others all become interchangeable. Then there are those who only focus on quality content, on-page SEO, meta KW, titles, and descriptions, and URL tweaks because that’s what the job calls for.

I think that the biggest secret to SEO is simply knowing all of the tools at your disposal and then applying those tools where appropriate. There is no such thing as secret techniques.

You mentioned few points which are good but you also need to focus on few more like, Use of Alt text in the images, keywords density in the blog, Outbound and Inbound links in the blogs, Headings used in the blogs, Keywords used in the blog, and most important make sure the content is unique and without any plagiarism.
