  • Is there a step-by-step SEO process to rank in top 10 results if ahrefs reports low KW difficulty?

Totally new to SEO, trying to read up on it…but as to be expected, SEO experts are…SEO experts, and I am feeling overwhelmed with trying to pick out which guides actually have tips that move the needle and which are just there to upsell some guru stuff or their agency.

Assuming I have identified a low difficulty keyword on ahrefs, is there a relatively common and impactful set of next steps that can get you to actually rank to top 10 search results? If so, can you briefly give some insight into what those steps might be?

Ahrefs would say something like "We estimate that you'll need followed backlinks from ~5 websites to rank in the top 10 for this keyword"…it can't be as simple as having 5 websites dofollow a link to your website right? What are some unsaid assumptions in their estimate and how far off have you found their estimates to be?

If result 5 shows DR 80, UR 10, Backlinks 5, will I be able to show up close to this result as a relatively new domain and just build 10 backlinks?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for your help!

To rank in the top 10 please optimize on-page SEO (quality content, keywords, meta tags), build relevant backlinks, and ensure your site loads quickly and more focus on user experience and content relevance not just backlinks…

KD is a pretty arbitrary measurement imo. For documentation, look at Google’s SEO starter guide and their quality rater guidelines.

To figure out exactly the best way to rank for a specific keyword or query, conduct a SERP audit. Google has a certain number of content “types” they’ll include in a SERP and you can see who’s ranking and why by looking at on relevance/intent, on-page optimization, backlinks, metadata, content type, word count, etc. It’s going to be query dependent every time, so start with the ones that’s matter.

Your main focus should be on on-page and quality backlinks. Create as many high-quality backlinks as possible so that your domain rating as well as the ranking of keywords will increase.

When you are linking another website, first check what the DA(At least 30+) & DR(should be 40+) of their website, what their Authroty score (should be 20+)
