Is lastmod field on sitemap necessary?
Posted by on October 3, 2025 at 6:54 amI have seen this vary so much for different websites. Has anyone run a data study for it to better understand if it matters?

Nope but Google will trust it if you dont tweak it too much. It can be useful but Googlebots will also do CRC/size checks to see if its been modified enough to warrant re-indexing
