Is keyword stuffing back?
Posted by seohelper on November 7, 2020 at 8:13 pmRecently my company site has taken a hit in our rankings. The interesting thing is the company that has taken the top spot came out of nowhere and the linked page has the keyword stuffed and repeated in the meta description and the page. The content isn’t good but it is stuffed with the particular keywords they’re trying to rank for. It’s like Google went back to their search algorithm from 2000.
Any ideas?

GuestNovember 7, 2020 at 8:27 pmWhy do you care? Is your content great? I bet it’s not else you wouldn’t be asking this kind of question.
Make sure users love your content and you’ll be fine.

GuestNovember 7, 2020 at 8:52 pmKeyword stuffing is not back.
What else does the competing site have that yours doesn’t?
Did they incorporate schema? Is their text written better? Do they describe the photos better? Does it perform better on mobile? Does it incorporate accessibility techniques better? Are they listed on Google and Apple Maps and Bing places?
Perhaps it’s your site that is built for the 2000 algorithm?

GuestNovember 7, 2020 at 9:44 pmOP – SPAM is 100% in vogue with Google right now. Don’t listen to these people that give you the party line. This has never been more true than it is in GMB right now.
You have a choice between optimizing for short term gains or hoping that Google will someday live up to its standards. It’s a hard choice to make when clients are on the line.
I wish you luck.

GuestNovember 7, 2020 at 10:18 pmThere are still some ranking signals where stuffing works (*cough* images *cough*) but Google updates have eliminated a lot of the value stuffing once had.

GuestNovember 7, 2020 at 11:49 pmI have been thinking this same thing. I’ve been seeing crap rank due to just crap content and keywords, the same one, everywhere. Hard time beating pages (local) that don’t have nearly the content or UX. They have more backlinks but not that many.
Kind of wondering why schema is so strong. Running test to see impacts currently.

GuestNovember 8, 2020 at 2:10 amIt’s possible. And here’s why…. If Content is King and everyone is pushing the X # words on a page. The common advice of adding Blog Posts, and writing articles (advice included in many SEO how to’s)…. All these things require one to continually keyword stuff into them, not in the traditional sense, but that’s the point of having a blog or posting an article… to talk about your sector keyword(s). Add in dwell time affecting rank… and it adds up to repetitively talking about your keyword in many ways over many pages, and so on.
What doesn’t make sense in SEO is how small and micro businesses are effectively ignored when following SEO advice…
Who would spend their time reading blog posts from your local eateries? from your wedding hair stylist / make-up artists? from your landscaping companies? from Plummers or Electiricans?
If you need any one of these things, one will search for them, look at the offering and pricing, go check yelp or the knot or angies list for reviews and make your decision whether or not you will buy. Are you really going to read a blog post when you’re trying to decide what you want for dinner? When your pipes break? Really?
So yeah. Blogs and articles only serve to keyword stuff for ranking.

GuestNovember 8, 2020 at 3:59 amSadly I do not understand what Google is doing but blackhat techniques are working right now. A website recently started “giving” awards to other websites and have a backlink through the image. They have thousands of backlinks now and ranking for almost all keywords. I’ve reported it to Google but yeah, they’re not doing anything about it at all.
