What do you guys think about giving social media to a local marketing company vs an international one? I’ve already listed some of the advantages and drawbacks but would like some outside opinions.

Depends what you want to do.

Some things need to be local, we work with local authorities and councils and our job is so much easier because we understand the area, government, feeling and history. We do this for places across the UK but it is so much easier for places we know.

If you’re intent on being and sounding like a Coca Cola, Dominoes then it shouldn’t really matter – you should be looking national/international to find the best agency rather than the best one in your town/city.

It depends. On international agencies you have less probability of finding an expert about your specific local market. But depending on the negotiation you can ask for a new hire or chose an international agency that belongs to a group and has a local agency that can work in partnership for your projects. I think as pros you have the knowledge and resources of a big company. As cons you will probably take some time to tune things up or many internal processes that delay the project deliveries for you.

On local agencies you probably won’t have so many issues about delays but you must choose an agency that has great reputation in terms of quality of the deliveries, specially the creative deliveries. I know great local companies that delivers the job with knowledge of the market, consistency and creative excellence. However I know some local agencies that doesn’t care about it too much and this is frustrating for the client and cause a lot of stress on the long run. A lot of these agencies hire less people, sometimes have a lot of employees working at more than one role at the same time and the teams are often overwhelmed. A local agency can be a really good choice, but you have to make sure they are up to the task.
