Pretty sure I ain’t the only one, trying hard to figure out the insta algorithm, especially on reels. An hour of edit, some old footage taken 2 years back gave me the most exposure whilst comparing to the most recent upload, 2 full days of edit & it got 100 times LESS of exposure. If they pour millions into developing this AI thing, why can’t they add a simple feature that can perhaps detect how much work one had put in their videos? Like I’m not saying my videos are top-tier & deserve to be viral but, I feel like there is an imbalance between hard work & reward, with the current algorithm.
Plus they never reply to suggestions/feedbacks like that thank you very much:)
    Looking forward to your thoughts.

You’re definitely not the only one.

The random photo I took of a sunflower with my iphone blew up while a composite (which I’m actually proud of) and spent a couple of hours taking photos of individual elements and then editing them got a few hundred likes.

Glad I’m not a professional doing this full time.

If anyone has any insights to share on reels, I’d be interested to hear them. I’ve certainly had similar experiences. I posted a screen recording as a reel (it was something last minute. My boss called me and told me something had to be up in 10 minutes so I made something really quick) and it did really well, but I’ve spent a lot of time making several reels that get 200-300 views. There has to be some formula or something, but I’m at a bit of a loss

In what way is effort a measure of quality?

If someone drops their tub of mayonnaise while filming and it spells “Reddit rules” in spilled mayo all over the floor it took zero effort. And would be upvoted, liked and shared wherever it was posted.

And then someone else spent 3 weeks working on a video of jumpcuts and edits of a cringe laden video ranting about wait staff, it would get nowhere.

The algorithms are designed to deliver content people find valuable and engaging. You need to identify what was different about the older video, and then spend your days making content like that.

Your post assumes the algorithm is to serve you. Just because you want to post it, doesn’t mean 10,000 people need to see it.

My Reels posts usually get 2-3 times the views as one of my videos, but never gets as many likes or comments.
Whenever I post a Reel, I just make sure it has whatever crappy music is popular at the time and it does well. The videos I post are usually subtitles and they do well too. Keep posting whatever seems to work with users and your page will grow.
