Instagram Engagement Down (like a lot)
Posted by seohelper on October 2, 2020 at 4:55 pmAbout a month ago our engagement dropped suddenly by more than 50% and since then it hasn’t gone back up. For example say we were getting 50+ likes per post and now we’re lucky if we get 20 likes. We have been gaining a few followers a day but our growth has slowed so much. I do add hashtags and tried using less or adding a few new ones to replace a couple old ones. Any suggestions on how to start growing again?

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 5:11 pmI have a similar issue but with Facebook. One day it’s normal and the next down by more than 50%.

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 5:13 pmI’m in the same predicament. The only way I’ve found to get back normal reach and engagement is putting reels out. It’s not my favorite thing to do but it’s the only thing that has seemed to help. Even just sharing others has helped. Best of luck to you

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 6:51 pmNo going back. Literally unless you start posting half naked chicks, not happening, and even then it could still suck.
Facebook wants you to pay them. But once you pay them you will always have to pay them.
Instagram added reals thinking it would make them compete with TikTok, but in actuality they should’ve adjusted their discovery and engagement algorithms to fix instagram to have virality. But they love money and big brands don’t seem to be stopping from paying for ad exposure.
Just do ads only now (not boosted posts) or just occasionally post and move on to something else

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 7:04 pmPretty sure Reels are getting prioritized by the algorithm now since they’re new and FB is trying to use them to get people back from TikTok.
I’ve heard people are seeing a lot of engagement using them. I have a photo account, so I haven’t cared to try and experiment with this myself yet, but if you’re a brand that can do something interesting with reels I’d give it a shot and see if it helps. -

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 7:48 pmTry posting reels, and make sure you click on the “Share to feed” option in the reel settings. You get significantly more views when you do that.

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 8:27 pmLook at type of content and how it was presented before. Most of the time such spikes and downturns occur when you switch your content type a lot. If something was working and getting good 50 likes with nice engagement rate of more than 3% than you should stick with it. Don’t forget that stories also add a lot of engagement through “Visit Profile”

GuestOctober 2, 2020 at 11:13 pmI highly suggest using reels! At first they annoyed me, but they seriously help!

GuestOctober 3, 2020 at 8:30 amI can’t tell much without seeing your account but are you changing hashtags too often ? Each hashtag takes some time to claim command over it. If you’re changing it too often then you won’t rank higher. Maybe try keeping a few hashtags same in that set and change the others. If you get 50 likes per post so if I have to guess you must have at least 500 followers so you should try to rank in hashtags which have less than 25K posts.
If you need any more help, feel free to send me a chat. I’d be more than happy to help you but as I said I can’t tell much without taking a look at your account.

GuestOctober 4, 2020 at 7:09 pmAll the creators I talk to are dealing with the exact same thing. Instagram has more or less plateaued. I have some friends that are seeing success with reels, but even that isn’t doing a lot to grow their overall following (although they are getting a lot of views).
Nowadays the platform is so saturated. The only thing that I’ve seen have a meaningful impact is driving audiences from other platforms to instagram. I think growing within Instagram alone is damn near impossible now. TikTokers are doing a great job – a lot are growing audiences on tiktok then cross-promoting insta and growing that way. I’d recommend exploring that.

GuestOctober 10, 2020 at 2:53 pmHi, I’m facing the same issue- low engagement, low likes.
I wanted to ask one more thing how many of you are able to see the total like count on someone’s post? (cozz I believe Instagram removed likes) and if you are able to see that can you please also tell me fo you have a private account or public account?
