I have an Instagram account with 4.7K very engaged followers. Started this account a few months ago.

Yesterday, I posted a story and it got 1.3K views. Which is great. And all viewers where from my followers…not bots or anything like that. Today…I posted a story and it’s been 11 hours and it only has 260 views. I got over 260 views within the first 30 minutes on my story yesterday.

What the hell? What am I doing wrong? Can someone explain this please.

I think posting time of active followers matters. Like if your post got low engagement within the first 30 minutes of being live and got low engagement, good chance it never really got pushed out. It seems like all social media algorithms work in tiers and engagement per grouping of views determines if it continues to get pushed to more feeds, even when it comes to people who follow you. I think it also has to be considered that you’re competing with other posts as well so it ultimately could have just been bad timing. I’m curious to hear other thoughts on this though

    1. It just depends on the people that see it and how much they want to engage with it. Just because post A ended up with big engagement does not predict the future of how other posts will work. The platform shows your post to random number of your followers. Those followers have to see it, like it, want to engage with it, etc. Human behavior is unpredictable. 2. Don’t fret over it. Social media is free. And you’ll never be able to control it or “fix” it. Focus on long term business plans. Likes and engagement don’t pay the bills. Clicks and sales pay the bills.

I’ve been traveling the globe the last 4 years or so. I have not shared my content out to a mass public view until maybe a couple weeks ago. I’ve keep all the content to my private IG. I’m not playing the follow for follow game, follow then unfollow, etc. I’m doing really absolutely nothing I’ve just automated the profile by taking out the sponsored IG ads to see which photos are influencing people the most, doubling down on those and still posting twice a day with two stories and just stepping back letting the content speak for itself and do all the work. Now I’m just watching. In a little over a week I’ve grown from 200 followers to 4868 as of this post. My impression count between all photos I’ve taken adds out on is close to 9 million. The profile in totality itself generates close to 100 likes every 1-2 minutes. Over the last 7 days exactly I’m averaging between 5-800 new flowers per day and my conversation rate on 5 photos is about 10%. My cpc is anywhere between 4-29cents depending on the photo/content. My question is this….is this any good? I feel it should be a lot more. I’m spending good money to market this content to the masses because it’s impossible to touch the amount of people I have in such a short amount of time actually grinding it out and trying to build connections. I have zero interest in that and just going to leap frog that entire aspect because the actual work work is already done. I don’t need anybody to tell me my content is great but I really have no idea what I’m doing I just know something is happening and I need someone with more insight and knowledge to tell me if these numbers I’m looking at are good. 5-800 a day seems really low and it worries me I’m wasting my time and money. One of my pics has generated over 60k likes in a week or so but even that seems very low.

Do you know anything about this? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Now that it’s been almost a full day, how did the final story view count turn out?

I noticed that sometimes the view count reporting is delayed, even by several hours. I’ve had instances where my 2nd and 3rd story post for the day had 1/3 of the views of the first one. After being worried that people were that disinterested in my content, the numbers eventually evened out with view counts very close to the 1st post.
