I’m alarmed by the number of visitors from SE Asia & Africa in my clients campaigns.

I recently got Lucky Orange on one of my clients landing pages (we have had poor success with click fraud software). I’m estimating that 1/3rd of our traffic (medium = cpc) has come from the Philippines, Madagascar, Morocco, and India. We are not targeting any of these countries. Our campaigns are set up that if they type in the destination along with the service we will show up. Has anyone else ever been alarmed by the money wasted by what I can only assume are bots? And Google clearly doesn’t do anything to stop it. Any solutions? I have blocked a whole list of countries now but I’m dreading to think how much budget is wasted for all marketers through these clicks.

Sill question – but are your advanced location settings on?

it’s not surprising at all… many businesses hire telesales from overseas countries for cost savings to generate leads. these will in turn likely be seen as “Presence or interest: People in, regularly in, or who’ve shown interest in your targeted locations (recommended)” which is moreso the ‘shown interest’ part.

    Changing location targeting to:
“Presence: People in or regularly in your targeted locations” will help along excluding the countries. Then you only have to contend with the ones using VPNs.

Have you considered just using a simple .htaccess file to block the IP address ranges for the undesired regions? We do that for almost all our ecommerce clients who do not ship to Asia, Russia, etc. Since the lion’s share of scams and attacks come from the same IP ranges, it’s a simple, free and easy ‘locked gate’ for a site.

    This is so racist.

Are you excluding all of the locations you aren’t targeting?
