Hello, I have a website for promoting startups that has been around for a few years and has seen growing traffic since then. It has around 10k daily users. It is basically a directory of categorized startups and also features articles written by users for promotional purposes. My intention is to genuinely help people who upload content to get more visits, but I can't think of any more ideas. I had thought about using social media to promote the content, but the problem is that I didn't create them in the first place and would have to start from scratch. My page is promoteproject(dot)com. Can you think of any ideas?

I don’t think this is an SEO question. You’re not looking to get more traffic to your site, but once users are on your site, how to get them to visit the listed sites.

So, to that question as a sometimes users of such directories, the listings are too often vague and un-differentiated. It’s like the site owners couldn’t be bothered providing genuinely useful information to someone who has a ton of sites to choose from, and little time.

I’d rather use a directory that has fewer listings but of better quality than one that lists a thousand choices with no way of choosing.

Well, you have to do keyword research with SEMrush and find out about which topics, subcategories that are under topic, that people actually search for. Then you can ask these site owners to write specific topics that will drive traffic.

Just from a UX perspective and looking at your layout, I would say that you’re relying on your navigation in place of any clearly defined CTAs and it doesn’t really guide anyone through anything.

I would try to define what you would consider a proper measurable goal and build a reverse behavioral map off of that to rethink how you could guide your visitors to that goal.

    Just my opinion though.

I’d focus less on starting new social accounts from scratch and more on using what you have. A couple of quick wins:

add internal “featured startup” spots across high-traffic pages so companies get exposure, set up email digests highlighting new startups (great CTR driver),

and use contextual linking inside articles to related companies.

These work faster than building a new social presence and actually drive visits where it matters.
