I wanted to ask you what the current “state” of Instagram is and what tips you have “left.”

I am an indie musician who has been on Instagram for over 4 years now. My follower count has remained exactly the same for about 1 1/2 years, and it seems to me that it is more difficult to achieve a reasonable reach than to run a company.

I'm sorry, but 300-600 views per reel is unfortunately not enough, and I'm struggling enormously to get attention.

In my opinion, posting three times a week should be way enough. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be enough anymore (many Insta-couches also think you should post 2-3 times a day), and honestly, I just can't do it.

I don't know what to do anymore. Chasing trends is the last thing I want to do.

Is paid ads really the only way for artits like me? I feel like im burned out… (again)

It’s hard to give advice without seeing what it is you actually do as an indie musician. But my advice today would be to start writing a new song and document the process as a daily Reel. “Day 1 writing a song about how she broke my heart” “Day 2 writing a song about how she broke my heart” etc. Make it last around 30 days and the last one being a full performance of the song.

Include all the little bits that you don’t think people will care about. How do you start? Where do you write the first lyrics? Did you have to change the key of the song after you wrote the chorus? Commit to doing it, you’re going to write another song soon anyway so might as well turn it into content. It could get a lot of attention.

Do you only post on Instagram? I post DJ content and I get much better results on TikTok. Also, I don’t get many followers on YouTube, but my YouTube shorts easily hit 1k views.

I’m probably wrong, but right now I think of Instagram as my local audience. People physically near me are more likely to find me through Instagram and book me for weddings and events.

But when it comes to “global” or atleast outside of my area attention…I get much more of that on Tik Tok.

YouTube shorts, I’m still trying to figure out what to do with YouTube. It’s easy to get 1k views but it’s hard to get followers. I probably need to put more focus into it and also upload longer content there if I want to see growth.

Tiktok is the best if you are looking for an awareness. But i think not strong enough to build a fanbase on Tiktok. Intagram is kinda the opposite.

Instagram reach is tough for indie artists now. Focus on authentic engagement, niche communities, and collaborations. Paid ads help, but consistent quality content and connecting with your audience matters most.

Try TikTok or YouTube Shorts instead. Less grind, better discovery. Insta alone won’t cut it anymore.
