  • I created a website, which social media accounts should I have?

Posted by seohelper on August 15, 2020 at 9:41 pm

So, I created a website about birds a few days ago.

I’ll post articles about birbs, birb care guides, and more, but also, it’s an affiliate marketing type of website. Still, I’d like to do things the right way, offering a lot of quality in each post before starting to post anything related to MA, like product reviews.

I created an Instagram account (4 days ago, its got 110f already idk how haha) and a Facebook page (today), but nothing else.

    Edit: My goals are to:

    – Generate traffic towards the website.
    – Turn a percentage of the traffic to conversions (with marketing affiliate programs, probably Amazon).
    – Create an active community around the website/brand.

Is there another social media account I should use together with these 2 (like Twitter)?

I know we birb people are everywhere on the internet haha. Should I try to reach all the possible channels or stick to these two to get started, as I planned? Thanks in advance for your answers!

    That’s super cool!

I think you should always walk backwards from your goals and how much you can realistically commit to. Have one strong channel is always better than having multiple weak ones. Know the recommended frequency of postings for each channel and then decide based on that.

That said, if your goal was to drive website traffic, then I think you should add Twitter to the mix. You could easily x-post between Facebook and Twitter. LinkedIn may also be good, depending on how much of an authority you’re trying to be on the subject.

Hope that helps. Just shooting from the hip here!

I recommend you to focus in one social network, test if you’ve results and what’s the users feedback. Then expand or pivot creating another social network and work with it.

What are your goals? Without goals any advice is just aimless

Honestly, I’d recommend all of them. That way you can share your content from each and your followers can find you wherever they’d like to be. For example, someone who’s on twitter but not Facebook might love your content but they’ll never find your website on social media if you never have a twitter account. Managing all of them can be a lot of work but I think it’s worth it in the end

Definitely Pinterest. Think of Pinterest like a visual search engine. It can drive HUGE amounts of traffic to your website (one of my sites gets ~1,000 hits a day from Pinterest referrals) which converts to around $12 a day in affiliate/advertising, or $360/mo. It has it’s own best practices so do some research and use either Adobe Spark or just Instagram stories to general simple video-format pins, as videos are getting a big boost in Pinterest’s algorithm right now.

Not Social Media related, but IMO don’t trust affiliate marketing alone. Affiliate links + ads generate more income and having both gives you a more stabilized income, should something happen to one income stream. For advertising, to maximize profits, apply to AdSense as soon as you have a functional website, Apply to Ezoic as soon as you have half the traffic they say they require, and Mediavine asap as soon as you meet their traffic requirements. I really wish someone had told me that before I spent way too long getting a terrible payout from Adsense.

Depends on your target audience. Where do they hang? That’s your answer

Create and grow FB Group for your niche. Also, consider memes for Twitter as its possible to go viral and attract new audience there.

First of all, do not go on Amazon, as they cut the payout % so low, that you barely make something. If you can find a better deal, try it out.

But back to your question. It really depends on what you can sustain, as if you spread yourself too thin, you might have a problem sustaining that. Better to choose one and put a lot of effort, as it will pay off.

And what social media you should choose depends on what should be your target audience such as age, interest, location, etc. Based on that you choose your social media. But my personal opinion, Instagram should be great.

Just both Instagram and Facebook really limit users to leave their channels, so it is hard to drive traffic. Better to create YouTube and blog posts. That should provide better results.

Echoing a few other people: Particularly since you mention there’s a community “everywhere,” meet people where they are, and where you feel you can be most comfortable and effective!

You also don’t want to overextend yourself and only have a few updates to a certain channel; they all really prize and boost engagement. I’ve tried to extend campaigns to Twitter before without realizing the time it would take to invest, and it just becomes this monkey around your neck to never be as attentive to it as is needed, and hurt our brand, at least, to sit there with a small following. Creating an active community unfortunately requires a lot of legwork.

Your niche definitely has an audience, you just need to find them. Being present on different social media platforms increases your online presence, but if it were me, I would put more effort into Instagram and consider doing collabs or even consider influencer marketing. Of course, you will need to find influencers who can relate to your niche.
