  • How to write a focus keyphrase for a category?

I am noticing that my SEO plugin (Yoast) asks for *Focus Keyphrase* for “categories”, in addition to posts and pages.

I have 4 different top-level categories for the blog which will probably be some head keywords like “art culture” or “healthcare”. But I am not sure whether this approach is correct since they will not be mid- or longtail key phrases and may deem too broad for Google.

How is writing keyphrases for a category different to pages and posts knowing they may contain a broader topic than a single page or post?

I say go for the broad keyword. After a couple of months check GSC and see if Google is ranking any secondary or related keywords based around your category topic and then add them to your keyword cluster for that category if they’re juicy terms. Don’t be scared to target broad terms, sometimes you get surprised.
