“Good artists copy, great artists steal”
    — Pablo Picasso

I saw a saying once, it stated “content isn’t king, it’s the kingdom” and as marketers and business owners we can never downplay the importance of content.

There are different types of content for different purposes, we have:

    — Good content

    — Influential content

    — Viral content

Good content is content that your audience likes an example is a “how-to” post, influential content is content backed up by emotion, this type of content makes your audience pull out their credit cards and buy whatever you’re selling (copywriting), and the final one is Viral content.

    What Is Viral Content

Viral content is content that influences but may not be for the purpose of selling, this is content that is sooo goood it gets a lot of shares and reaches thousands of people.

Can All Your Posts Go Viral?

Good content is easy to research and create, but Viral content is more of a hit-and-miss situation as you can’t know which will go viral on Instagram so it’s totally fine if only a few posts go viral.

How To Research & Create Viral Content By Spying On Your Competitors.

One thing to note about Instagram is every niche is different, photos work better in some niches, and videos do better in others.

You may think it’s difficult or impossible to be 90% certain which post could go viral or not but it’s totally possible.

Spying on your competitor’s to create content similar to their most viral posts is a smart idea and can be done manually but let’s skip the manual process as it can get quite time-consuming.

Let’s spy on your competitor’s using a simple tool called Vurku

NOTE: I Am in no way affiliated with vurku, I do not know the owner but it’s a tool I’ve been using for a while now and the owner did a great job by creating this beauty.

    What Is Vurku?

Vurku is an Instagram post scraping and downloading solution, it’s completely free and lets you know which of your competitor’s last 50 posts has gotten the highest engagement rate (an engagement rate over normal can be considered viral).

What Can You Do With Vurku?

    With Vurku you can:

    — Copy and paste Instagram post links and download the post with the caption

    — Search competitor accounts and sort their content by highest engagement

    — Search new content on hashtags

    — See the average, best, and worst engagement rates of your competitors

    — See the most used hashtags of your competitor(s)

    Using Vurku For Content Research

STEP 1: Create a list of 10 or more competitors that are growing with content in your niche

    STEP 2: Go to Vurku(dot)com

STEP 3: Select the “Posts by username” option

STEP 4: Input the username of your competitor

STEP 5: Choose the post type you would like to see (Images only, videos only, or all)

STEP 6: Enter the number of posts to scrape from your competitor’s account, and hit the “Start” button to start scraping

STEP 7: Wait for a minute (or a few seconds) for Vurku to scrape the posts

STEP 8: Click on sort by, and sort by highest engagement then wait for 5 seconds

STEP 9: Now you can see the most viral posts on your competitor’s account

STEP 10: Download the ones with the highest engagement rate

STEP 11: Recreate these posts for your account or just repost them if they’re not branded

Well, that’s how you spy on your competitor’s best performing posts, at the time of this writing Vurku is the best content research tool I have found and I will update this if I find a better one.

I like everything you’re saying except for “repost if not branded.” You shouldn’t steal content that someone else took the time to make.

I want to do a competitor analysis, by tagging content by type and format, and compare it to my brand’s social content over the last 3-6 months. Is there a scraper tool you know/can recommend, similar to Vurku for Instagram, that lets me download all posts for competitors in a csv/xls format for LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter?
