  • How to best leverage the link authority of an old penalized property?

Posted by seohelper on January 4, 2021 at 3:10 pm

Project A has been manually (resolved) and algorithmically penalized in the past.
Project B was started with a 301 redirect from Project A but clearly inherited some algorithmic penalties.
Project C is coming new to live.
Project A has a lot of link authority.

Question: Clearly 301s from Project A to Project C are out of question but would you place follow links on Project A to Project C to pass link authority? This is next to asking webmaster to actively change links from Project A to Project C?

I assuming you want to pass on the positive elements of site (A) to the new site (C).

The best way to do that is to have project A have links to project C on the site. (Don’t use 301 redirects)

The key is to make sure you are posting relevant links. The domain/page authority may be high, but if it is unrelated you may recreate an event that caused a penalty.

When in doubt, play the role of a web user trying to navigate this scenario. Imagine someone looking for something specific on A, does C have a related product/service/article? If so, the link makes sense.

Ex: Imagine going to a pet store to find dog food. If the store says they are out and sends you to the hardware store, you’d be frustrated. You’d be okay going to the grocery store if they had a pet aisle that sold dog food.

    Hope that helps.
