  • How much should an SEO strategist be paid?

Posted by Show_Kitchen on August 19, 2025 at 3:58 pm

Hi, I live in Chicago and have been guiding my company’s SEO strategy for 2 years. Before that I did 2 years of copywriting and content for same company, and before that I was a freelance journalist and blogger for 8 years.

I’ve met all my performance goals and am planning on asking for a raise, but I don’t really know where I’m at relative to the market.

What would you all expect to be paid in that range?

There’s such a wide range of jobs under the “SEO strategist” umbrella (the highest level being TripAdvisor SEO Strategist = very good enterprise SEO) that it’s impossible to say without more info.

What kind of company is this?

How much of the business do you drive?

What can you prove? If you’re killing it then asking for a share of that ongoing growth will be a no brainer. Or a base plus incentive structure where you get a share of closes deals from SEO.

This all depends on your ability to prove your value. Most SEOs can’t, don’t and won’t.

    Everyone has “strategies”

Execution is where the value is.
