  • How much do you usually charge for SEO services?

    Posted by Cautious-Poem7109 on January 22, 2026 at 5:13 am

    Hi everyone,

    I’m looking to get a sense of the current market rates for SEO services. I’m curious about both freelancers and agencies — how much do you usually charge for:

    • Monthly SEO retainer
    • One-off SEO audits
    • Local business SEO (small/medium business)
    • E-commerce SEO

    If you don’t want to give exact numbers, even percentage ranges, ballpark figures, or hourly rates would be super helpful.

    Also, feel free to mention the region you’re in, as I know rates can vary a lot geographically.

    current market rates shouldnt matter for your pricing. calculate how much it costs for you to fulfill the services and markup whatever % youre comfortable selling

    Rates vary a lot, but ballparks most SEOs follow:

    * Monthly SEO retainer: $1,000–$10,000+ (depends on scope & market)
    * One-off SEO audit: $500–$5,000
    * Local business SEO: $800–$3,000/mo
    * E-commerce SEO: $2,000–$10,000+/mo

    Hourly rates often range $75–$250/hr. Agencies and freelancers in North America/Europe tend to be at the higher end; other regions can be lower.

    9-15k over 6 months just to get the on page and technical right then we can talk about content alone at 2,500/mo and backlink at 5k/mo, of course optimizing as we go. 6 months commit then 3 month renewals.

    We’ll setup and manage ads for additional 1.5k/month including keyword research, landing page(s) and assets for a small company. They will learn to make decisions or we won’t do it.

    Same deal, 6/mo then 3/mo. It’s too much work to treat ads like a fad. We’ll actively optimize a campaign for 2.5k/mo. Their dime for ads.

    We work with our clients to accommodate what makes sense. Sometimes that means 5-10k/mo.

    We’re a team or we’re out. Client understands we won’t guarantee result on ads or SEO.

    We prefer to work with clients who take ownership. We teach them and their team to handle a lot of tasks internally to the greatest degree possible.

    We don’t worry about churn because we’re constantly leading them to the next stage of internal reliance, people quit or move-on, and we’re a good insurance policy. They inevitably want to launch another project where they need our help anyway.

    We’re not sending out a bunch of BS reports nobody reads. Learn to login and check your data. We incentivize good client behavior and reasonable expectations.

    Why did I spill the beans all out in the open? Because this is typically what the segment we target can stomach.
