  • How it felt reactivating Instagram after 5 years away

Back in 2019, I deactivated my Instagram just wanting a break from social media. Over the weekend, I decided to reactivate it… and man, I didn’t realize how many people even existed anymore. I don’t know if that just proves how fake social media is or if I’ve been living under a rock, but wow.

Friends from high school have kids now, others are getting married left and right—and honestly, I’d say around 50–70% of the people on my feed made me think, “Wait, I forgot he/she even existed.”

Now I’m debating if I should just deactivate again. One of the reasons I left back in 2019 was because I hated all the flexing and the fake perfection people post. You can tell half of it’s just smiles for the camera while behind the scenes they’re miserable.

Not sure how to feel about it or why it hit me this way, but it really made me think about how weird and disconnected social media can make you feel.

So interesting I mean if you feel like it’s not a positive thing to bring back into your life why not delete it again!

You probably didn’t miss much. The platform changed, the filters got better, but the vibe’s the same. Half of what you see is performance art for validation points. If you do decide to stay, treat it like a museum to observe, don’t absorb. If you have the time, curate who you follow and use it on your own terms.

I think having social media isnt all bad i think the important thing is to have a healthy relationship with it. I believe its okay to take an extended break from social media and return to it with strong boundaries. Sometimes its nice to check up on how those people are doing or have a giggle at someone from highschool who just had her 8th baby without having a strong tie to the social media app itself.

Deactivate it again. I’m only on TikTok these days just for the fun of it
