  • How do I start content creation?

Posted by PR0METHEUS04 on January 29, 2026 at 12:57 pm

I want to start my content creation journey on YouTube and Instagram, but I’m stuck at the very first step. I’m basically the average audience. I enjoy watching sports, I love movies and going to the cinema, listening to music, travelling, exploring food, riding my bike, playing games, checking out new gadgets, and I’m a bit of a tech geek too. The problem is, I don’t know how to turn these interests into content or where exactly to start. Looking for genuine advice from people who’ve been through this.

Starting a content creation journey can be overwhelming, but it’s great that you have a diverse range of interests. Consider starting with a niche you are most passionate about. You don’t have to stick to one topic forever. For instance, if you’re into tech gadgets, start with unboxing videos or reviews of the latest gear. This way, you can share your genuine excitement and knowledge. As you grow more comfortable, you can slowly incorporate other interests like travel or food. Authenticity is key, so let your personality shine through and engage with your audience. Remember, it’s a learning process and evolving is part of the journey.

You pick a niche you’re passionate and just do it. I know that’s very generic advice, but those hobbies and interests don’t overlap much. The only way I could see multiple of these working is if you’re a lifestyle influencer, and even then, the type of content you’d produce is different than what I think you want to create.

The hardest part is to just start and getting over imposter syndrome. Are you planning to actually show your face and talk? Voice overs? ONLY music while showing things? That also plays a part.

One mistake I see a lot is trying to do YouTube + Instagram at the same time. Pick one platform, learn how content *moves* there, then reuse that knowledge elsewher

Pick ONE interest and go deep. Seriously, the biggest mistake people make is trying to cover everything at once. You like tech and gadgets? Start there. Movies and cinema? That works too. But don’t try to be a “lifestyle” creator from day one because you’ll spread yourself too thin and burn out.

Here is what actually worked for me and others I know:

    – **Start with short form** (Reels/Shorts). Lower barrier to entry, the algorithm pushes new creators harder on short form, and you learn faster because you’re making more content.

    – **Copy the structure, not the content.** Find 5 creators you admire and study their videos. How do they hook you in the first 3 seconds? What’s the format? Recreate that structure with your own spin.

    – **Post before you’re ready.** Your first 20 videos will probably suck. That’s normal. Everyone’s first stuff is rough. The only way to get better is to publish and learn from the feedback.

    – **Batch your content.** Pick one day a week to film multiple pieces. Way easier than trying to create something every single day from scratch.

Don’t overthink the niche thing either. Just start making stuff about what genuinely excites you and your niche will find you after 30-50 posts when you see what resonates.

Also pro tip: engage with other creators in your space before and after you post. Comment genuinely on their stuff. The community aspect matters more than most people think.

    Ok
    Let’s start
Step 1:Go to your browser or YouTube history and check for the last 15 days of your activity.
What type of content you’ve watched more. This is what your main interest is. This will help you see more clearer and get some focus. If you came down to 2-3 niches that’s also good. Now see what interests you the most. Voila you have found your niche.
Step 2:Now go to Instagram or YouTube and search your niche. This way you’ll find reels or videos which are high performing. After that create a google sheet for all the content creators whose reels are going viral. So in this way you have list down your competitors. 20-25 competitors you have to add in your sheet.
Step 3 : now visit each competitor acc and check which reels are over 1m views and note it down . Do this for each competitor. This way you have a list of content ideas for 1-2months.

Now start replicating them and upload it.
My friend now you’re a content creator.

    Hope this helps

Pick ANY or ALL of the things you are interested in. The more interested and passionate the better. Figure out what YOU can add to that. Maybe educational? maybe critics? maybe you are interested but you dont know it yourself so you document your journey? so so many options.

what will be successful? WHO KNOWS. generally though most people believe that posting content that relates to other content you already have done is best. this is not always true, but…. its a good place to start. You could for example really like hockey, baseball, and ping pong and tennis! What do they have in common? They are all sports. That is very surface level. What else? Ok… they all have insanely fast and technical aspects? What else? Maybe… they all have very similar forms of audience? Or maybe the interactions between the “bleachers” and the players are similar? If you can find a connection that resonates with you… that can ALSO be a niche. dont misunderstand and think niches are things that exist. a niche is a social construct. YOU can make your own.

Casey Neistat made vlogging what it is today. were there others before? probably. but vlogging as a niche then and now are NOT the same niche. they just share a name.

my advice though… pick one or more of your “interests”. figure out something you want to say or show etc. in that “interest”. throw it at the youtube/Social media wall of shame. if you find a different unrelated topic, you can make a new channel for that. (you dont have to) make another video, and another and another. some time later (id recommend at least a day but even a week would be good) after you published the first (or any) video… go back and watch it. write down notes. look at comments. etc. what did you like or not like? what was bad or good? do you think anyone else would like this that finds the topic interesting? (dont worry about if anyone else thinks that thing is interesting!) if even after multiple published videos of going through the same process about the same related topic you feel your videos are great in ALL aspects, then you can start evaluating if MAYBE, there is not such a huge audience in that niche. but dont give up! you could make some more videos on the same topic or something new. you live, you do, you learn.

Don’t overthink the niche at first. Pick one thing you already do and just document it consistently. You’ll figure out what sticks by posting not by planning forever

Pick a passion, film a 30 sec hook, edit on a free app, push to IG reels & youtuve shorts. Layer trending sounds, captions, then monitor views for ROI. Start with 3 videos a week to build a consistent workflow.

This is honestly a good starting point because you already have interests. The trap is trying to combine everything into one channel too early. Pick one theme you can talk about for months and one format you can actually maintain. “Average audience” is fine, but the algorithm needs a clear signal of who you’re for. If you tell me what you enjoy most creating, talking on camera, writing, editing, or researching, I can suggest a path that fits your personality instead of forcing a trendy style.
