  • How did the Disney Blackhat sitelink hack happened?

    I come from a cybersecurity background, and it's pretty easy to use a vuln to switch out the titles, but SEOs are claiming that it's because of multiple sites linking to that page with an anchor text.

    If changing a page's title would have been as easy as that, wouldn't every major site have one?

    302 redirect tries to keep the original URL indexed, no canonical on the page redirected to.

    Then you have Google’s title tag rewrite system which can pull from link anchor text. You mostly see it pull from link anchors when a page is noindexed.

    + A bunch of spam backlinks with black hat anchor text.

    I always thought Google ignoring bad links to the site meant they ignored the anchors, and they might for ranking systems, but I guess this one slipped through.

    It’s a pretty basic “poisoning the well” strategy, it’s going to be a much bigger issue if the next few years with how relatively simple it is to game AI results
