Is SEO just the following, high level?

    – Write quality content people will search for.

    – Get quality and relevant websites to link to you.

    – Make sure Google knows about your content quickly by using search console and sitemaps (maybe “instant indexing”)

    – Fast website.

    – Internal links.

Bonus question/comment: If you have a website/product/service that you enjoy writing about. Aren’t you going to write about why you love it? Your own way? And doesn’t it put a bit of a damper on the passion and creativity if you instead keyword research, look at search results, and think about how to write better than what’s out there to rank higher? In other words, if you just want to create, SEO can be a real bummer. No? Although, if you “just create,” I guess it’s possible to still rank well. You might get lucky.

That’s basically the skeleton, yeah, but in practice it’s more about matching intent than just “quality.”

I’ve seen pages with great writing get zero traction because they didn’t align with what people actually search for, and average content win just by fitting intent better.

On the creativity part, yeah it can feel restrictive. What worked better for me was separating the two, write freely first, then shape it slightly toward what’s already working instead of forcing it from the start. Keeps it from feeling too mechanical.

That’s a solid high-level view, you’re basically covering content, links, and technical basics. The missing layer is intent and distribution. You can do everything on your list and still miss if the page doesn’t match what people actually expect when they search, or if it never earns real visibility beyond publishing.

On the creativity side, it only feels restrictive if you treat SEO like a script. In practice, it’s more like framing. You can still write in your own voice, just anchored to what people are already looking for and how they phrase it.

The trade-off is you won’t always write exactly what you want, when you want. But if the goal is traffic that converts or compounds, a bit of structure usually beats pure “create and hope.”
