    Hello great SEO community. A couple of days ago, I set up a Table of content for long-form articles and now I see in Google Search Console that the individual chapter URLs are being indexed.

    Does anyone have any idea/advice? Thank you so much!

    I’ve set it up like this:

    * In the H2s: added: **<h2 id=”section_one”>** (two, three, four etc.)
    * In the table of content: **#section_one**
    * Url get’s: **#section_one** at the end

    Off the top of my head, try adding:

    > rel=”nofollow”

    To each of the <a> tags.

    What are you asking for advice on specifically?

    I’m not sure that you should interpret that as each anchor being indexed separately, instead you’re probably getting the anchor links included in your SERP display – the ones that let you jump to that specific section of the page from the search results. Search for the keywords or do a site: search to see how it’s actually displaying on Google.

    what exactly is the problem with having them indexed?

    If Google serves a featured snippet with jump-to highlighted text, you see the URL fragment in GSC. Could that be it?

    Just simply do a no-follow adjustment for the link in your robots.txt file. If you have Yoast or Rankmath, i think you can do it from there plugin.

    And this is a bad thing? Seems to me its an opportunity to optimize those chapter titles.

    isn’t this what canonicalization is for?
