Not so long ago, I was led to believe that if there is trends data for a particular query, there is search volume for that search query, no matter what the data shows. The more data that shows up, for example, a trend line and geographical data, there's likely more than 10000 searches a month. If there's none at all it's likely less than 1000, or even less than that, depending on what the query is.

IME, this used to hold reasonably true, but I've never heard it discussed anywhere else. It certainly seems logical to me, but it also feels less true now due to all of Google's changes. Does anyone else have experience of this?
