Google Ads keeps rejecting my YouTube video ad (wine education) — even after appeal. What am I missing?

Posted by Disastrous_Two_9167 on April 7, 2026 at 9:56 am

I run a wine education YouTube channel and have been experimenting with Google Ads (video campaigns driving to YouTube).

I’ve successfully run 2 previous campaigns promoting videos about Chenin Blanc:

    • Both were partially restricted due to alcohol content, but still ran fine
    • They generated solid views and watch time

Now I’m trying to run a third campaign, and this one has been marked “Not eligible – Alcohol information”
The ad links directly to a YouTube video (no landing page)
The video is educational/editorial, not commercial:
    – Discusses a specific wine and producer (history, style, context)
    – No pricing, no “buy now”, no sales funnel

And yet my appeal was denied, and my Campaign is effectively blocked / paused.

    SO far I have tried:

    • Removing obvious sales language
    • Removing the wine name from the ad copy
    • Targeting is limited to countries where alcohol ads are allowed (US, UK, Germany, Japan, etc.)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this one over the line?

Hello, fellow wine lover. Advertising for alcohol is quite tricky so you might be fighting an uphill battle here.

Instead of appealing, try reaching support first and ask them to pinpoint what is triggering the policy warning. They’ll get back to you at some point and it may or may not help unlocking the situation.

Don’t try more if you still gonna trying it may your ads account suspend. You can promote others video of your channel and the wine videos use as endscreen. So you will get some traffic in your wine videos.

Do you have proper age restrictions set? Could also be targeting – you’re limited with what types of targeting can be used for YouTube with alcohol sales

The distinction between ELIGIBLE LIMITED and NOT ELIGIBLE is everything here… previous campaigns ran as eligible limited meaning restricted reach but still serving. NOT ELIGIBLE means the AI classifier flagged this specific video content differently… video thumbnail or title likely contains something triggering stricter classification.

Create a completely new ad creative with neutral framing and resubmit rather than appealing the same asset again.

Google’s probably seeing the video itself as promoting alcohol, not just teaching about it, so even if your ad copy is clean it can still get blocked.

At that point it’s less about what you wrote and more about how the video looks and feels, so I’d try a way more neutral version with less bottle glamour, less producer hype, and more straight-up educational framing.
