  • Getting IG verified as a doctor?

Posted by seohelper on March 19, 2021 at 10:37 pm

Hi guys, I am a doctor and recently began podcasting and providing some medical/health content on my IG. I have a small following, 1.5k.

I have come across two impersonator accounts using my name and photos and posting a load of ads for health food supplements etc. I reported both and both were removed. I am wondering if as a doctor there is any chance of getting verified to help avoid this, I am not famous in the slightest but this kind of thing really has the potential to hurt my credibility.

    Here are the steps:

Install Facebook pixel into your website.

Connect your Facebook business account to your Instagram account.

Make sure all business infos are correct and the same on your website, Facebook, and Instagram. And set it all to a “local business”

I’m not sure if this helps, but if the email address attached to your Facebook and Instagram account is from your website domain, that might help.

    Then, apply for the verification.

Instagram verifies legit and real businesses (you) and not just famous or newsworthy people.

Hey! I’m also a physician in the social media space. I looked into this before setting up my account. One barrier is one of the criteria you have to meet is you have to be “notable” and they define this as “well known” and “highly searched for” which can very subjective. I don’t think follower count matters. I would report those imposter accounts to IG and maybe reach out to their customer service to see if that would persuade them to verify you. I personally think if a physician wants to make an IG account to post about health info, we should be able to send our NPI number (or the equivalent) to get verified. It’s dangerous to have people impersonating doctors/healthcare professionals and spreading misinformation.

Your best option would be a consultancy agreement with a representative. That would get you verified. A lot of users , high profile and whatnot are not aware this is available as an option. I guess you might say it’s more prevalent with high profile users. But it’s an options available for all.
