  • Future Social media platforms, how different should they be?

Posted by seohelper on January 31, 2021 at 9:25 am

We know the common big social media platforms. They look like how they look like.

    * How different would we design new social media platforms?
    * Which old functions would we drop?
    * Which functions would we design in an other way?
    * Which new functions would we develop?

I think it’s a interesting to discuss this, as it will effect the life of all of us.

Social media was initially designed for people connect with friends and family living elsewhere. Today it is major source of news and entertainment. The design has not kept up with this change- thinking along these lines might be the way forward.

I changed my mind, I actually would like Old MySpace back. Specifically the pre-algorithm days.

Hm, interesting topic to think about. I can point out the things I hate about current platforms: the suggestions of all aspects like friend suggestions, video, posts. The endless scrolling, the notifications. Ability to change settings are great, but the amount of it and the need to dig through are overwhelming.

Good question! When building a new platform entirely from scratch we are blessed with the ability to create something that doesn’t fall into the trap of relying on manipulative algorithms, addictive tricks, like buttons, notifications, data abuse and all the other things that currently sustain the industry. There is another way. Monetisation can come from other features. The big players cannot change now, no matter whether they’d like to or not, as the entire system is based around targeted advertising to free users. What’s more, shareholders in public companies put pressure on execs. New start-ups have the luxury of going back to the drawing board. If we can monetise through other creative solutions, we break the cycle. Then our platforms can focus on facilitating meaningful social interactions. When tech is able to be used as a tool like this, it can have positive influence on society, bringing people together, relieving loneliness, building communities, creating valuable connections. Social networking is not evil if it’s done in the right way. Let’s see if we can tweak the industry back towards what it can and should be all about.

I wanted to ask Reddit a question in r/askredit but the sytem blocked me – I am not allowed to ask about the word of the social point sytem. Reddit advised me to pust im r/Advice, but this subreddit told me, “no wait for 12 minutes”, you are too fast…I did not used reddit on this day and also posted maybe 2 messages one day before. This is a huge problem to couple in the future.

So, future social media plattforms will definitely need an ADVANCED artificial intelligence for better decisions.

Also do they need power, to have no problems if too many people post.

Also, they will need to deal with more administrator, governance, as the social media plattforms are used already will be used by even more people. So they have to do a lot of more administrative work than now. As social plattforms are like countries. By virtual. The mixing between reald world and virtual world as we see, already started. But can get stronger.
