Given the rise of Clubhouse and other Audio communities like Cappuccino.fm and podcasting-esque app Shuffle I am curious how professionals are calibrating audio into the SM experience.

Twitter and Discord have already added audio spaces for discussions so it seems like something is bubbling there.

Audio communities, like forums, seem intimate and highly candid. Does anyone see the future of Social Media shifting more towards an audio experience as opposed to image scrolling?

Well we allready have instagram for audio. Its called soundcloud.

Lots people will end up buying and downloading music mostly so that they own the tracks and dont need to worry and songs being greyed out and unavailable. r/musichoarder

I don’t see it trending towards audio experiences. Every piece of data currently demonstrates content with visual assets performs the best. I can’t imagine a huge paradigm shift to audio.

Plus, Clubhouse isn’t even profitable. They have to find a way to monetize it to sustain operations. The only appeal to it now is the FOMO created by their invitation-only culture.

Could it be that Clubhouse’s success is because we’re all burned out from video calls and endlessly scrolling feeds of photos?

I think the shift to audio is worth watching. It could have something to do with the brain chemicals activated by voice (as opposed to text). Voice gives a more human engagement than text. Video is of course even better, especially if it is really personal. That’s why TikTok took off.
